A statement from Councillor Simon Jeal, Leader of the Labour Group, and Councillor Kathy Bance. A transcription can be found below.

“It was a privilege to speak on behalf of the Labour Group at Bromley Council’s re-signing of the Armed Forces Covenant, which pledged that Bromley Council will support our armed forces, their families and our veterans, and will always remember the sacrifices they made.

“The Labour Group supports the armed forces community in Bromley and tonight we also asked Bromley Council to show the same support for LGBT+ equality and to stand with us in condemning the rise in homophobia and transphobia across the country.

“Unfortunately, the Conservative Group declined this, and their amendment stripped out any reference to the LGBT+ community in Bromley from our motion. Yet again demonstrating that while we value Bromley’s LGBT+ community, our armed forces and our diverse community, the Conservatives don’t.”
